Júlio César Chaves is passionate about making data meaningful. As a professor at FGV, he teaches subjects ranging from databases and information modeling to data governance and data engineering, always with the aim of turning complex ideas into practical tools students can apply in their careers. He has a gift for connecting the technical world of engineering with the executive perspective of governance, helping future leaders understand both sides of the equation.
Beyond the classroom, Júlio serves as Manager of IT Infrastructure for Research at FGV, where he oversees high-performance computing and digital platforms that support cutting-edge research. In this role, he bridges academia and industry, ensuring that innovation flows in both directions—bringing market challenges into the classroom and channeling academic insights into real-world solutions.
At his core, Júlio values tradition, family, and history. He often reflects on the idea that we “stand on the shoulders of giants,” recognizing how past achievements shape today’s opportunities. It is this perspective that fuels his teaching, his management of research infrastructure, and his dedication to building the next generation of data-driven professionals.
