
Andrew was born in Australia and grew up in a multilingual family. Both his parents are of Greek origin, having been born in Egypt and speaking 6 languages each. He started programming in middle school, developing code in APL and BASIC languages on IBM mainframes in the mid-1970s. In early 1983 he graduated from the University of Adelaide with a degree in Mathematical Sciences majoring in Computer Science.
Andrew first started working with data in 1984 at the Australian Bureau of Statistics, developing data analytics applications in SAS.
He has 30 years’ management consulting experience in data strategy, data management, project management and data governance roles across Australia and New Zealand.
In 2018 he was recruited to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission as its inaugural Data Governance Manager.
He later joined ANZ Banking Group in his current role as Data Governance Manager in the Group Risk Division. International role supporting the Group Risk Information Delivery team.
He is a collaborator in the International Leaders’ Data Organisation (dataleaders.org), and has mastery of software development, business management, and data management disciplines.
He has published several podcasts on Data Governance over last 3 years.
Andrew is the DAMA Australia National Vice President 2021-2022, and former South Australian State President. As DAMA Australia VP, he is responsible for developing a national strategy for data literacy education across Australian Universities and Vocational Community Colleges.
Andrew has been volunteering his entire adult life. In 1983 he was made life member of the Hellenic Club of Canberra, having served as its Board Secretary. He has also been volunteering involved in Australian Community Radio broadcasting across a 40-year career, in roles including Board Chairman, on air presenter/production and Finance advisory. In 2012 he was conferred life membership of Australia’s leading youth community radio station Fresh927.
Andrew has provided volunteer mentoring services for the University of Adelaide MBA school, and for Flinders University New Venture Institute.
Andrew is passionate about creating and growing data governance communities of practice, designing and steering effective enterprise data governance programs.
